How to apply
If you are applying for a US scholarship then you need to start off with an essay about your experiences and interests. An English language proficiency test is required for any non-native English speaker. The most popular test is IELTS (International English Language Testing System). GRE or GMAT are common standard tests that every university student must take as a requirement of their application. For example, Oxford University requires applicants to complete at least three graduate-level exams, including GRE and TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language). Exams must be taken no more than two years before application. Some universities also require a personal statement on the student’s reasons for pursuing advanced study at their institution and how he or she intends to apply those skills after graduating.
Who can apply?
The scholarships are available to students from South African institutions. In addition, international students (students who are not citizens of countries in sub-Saharan Africa) studying mathematics at universities outside of South Africa may also apply. These include both South African citizens attending universities outside of South Africa and international students attending universities within sub-Saharan Africa but outside of South Africa. Applicants must have a completed Bachelor’s degree with at least a minimum second class upper division (i.e., First Class honors level), or equivalent, by 1 September 2021. Candidates may be early, mature and returning students; only those having already graduated with their bachelor’s degree prior to 1 September 2021 will be considered for these awards.
