Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo has just confirmed that the firm will continue in its support for the Nintendo Switch in the coming year with a new software planned for the year 2025.
Furukawa in a recent interview with Nikkei (translated via VGC) was asked whether the handheld in question will continue to see support now that it is six and a half years into its life cycle.
The president then responded by stating that Nintendo will continue its focus on the Switch until the fiscal year which is ending March 2024 and the console on the other hand will continue to see new games until 2025.
Nintendo’s President Statement Confirming the News
“We are still working on software for the Switch for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025,” Furukawa stated.
“In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, we hope to sustain the momentum of Zelda and the [Super Mario Bros] movie, with a focus on the holiday sales season. As for hardware, we will maximize not only new demand for the hardware, but also for those buying second consoles and replacements.”
For the rest of the year 2023, Nintendo is reportedly preparing to release two new titles, which are inclusive of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Super Mario RPG Remake, both of which in question are set to launch at the end of 2023.
Nintendo’s Plan for Next Year
We already know some games that are planned for next year, and this is including Princess Peach: Showtime, which is slated for a late March 2024 release at the moment, as well as Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD remake which is one to look forward to. There is however no release window just yet, but it is however expected to launch around mid-2024.
Nintendo Direct News from September 14
The latest Nintendo Direct from September 14 also reportedly confirmed that Side Order, Wave Two of the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass is set to come in Spring 2024, so there is already a whole bunch of titles to anticipate in the coming year, on top of what Nintendo has yet to announce for the rest of the year as well as in 2025.
