Jagun Jagun Review – Jagun Jagun (The Warrior), a Yoruba-Nollywood film that premiered on a Thursday, the 10th of August, 2023 and was immediately the talk of the town, literally, after hours of its release.
Nigerian veteran actor and film producer, Femi Adebayo, really outdid himself on this one as he was able to attain this phenomenal fit just after months of delivering Agesinkole(Kings Of Thieves) which was said just to have exceeded its target and even beyond at the Nigerian Cinemas in less than three months. Jagun Jagun reportedly trended in the top 10 chart of more than 18 countries worldwide, including UK, US, UAE, South Africa Nigeria.
However it has been said by a few people that the movie is overrated and personally, after observing, I strongly disagree with these people and I believe most people would agree with me because this movie certainly is not a mere case of Nigerians knowing how to overhype their own.
Film Synopsis
Ogundiji, the Villain begins to feel threatened by the potential of a young warrior, Gbotija whose main aim is to avenge the death of his father that occurred during the invasion of his hometown, Iwo kingdom, by some unidentified soldiers. Ogundiji has always been a tyrant who has achieved success in the act of mugging a lot of kingdoms for wrong leaders, he soon becomes threatened by the arrival of the young warrior, Gbotija.
Commentary/Analysis
The portrayed storyline is about a young man determined to become a mighty warrior and joins an elite army, encountering the wrath of a maniacal warlord. However after sitting through it, it turns out Jagun Jagun isn’t necessarily about war, but love, disloyalty and unbounded power.
The chief characters are Gbotija who is the heroine and Ogundiji, the super villain. In general opinion Jagun Jagun lays a precedent for what Nollywood producers should consider if they decide to produce an epic film.
Gbotija lost the most significant people in his life as a result of the war including his father, rendering him an orphan. Before he could even notice, Gbotija suddenly became varmint and tool of mass destruction after being influenced by Ogundiji.
However, when Ogundiji observed that Gbotija was a little too much for him to handle, he then subjected his trainee to a series menacing tests with the hope he would not make it out alive. Gbotija was forced to enter a fight, killing his father-figure, Gbogunmi and his lover, Ogunkitan, who was masqueraded as Agemo.
