Green Card Options Through Employment
The term green card applies to a permanent resident card (Form I-551), which is also commonly referred to as a permanent resident alien card. This document allows individuals to live and work permanently in United States. In general, there are two main ways that you can get a green card.
The first is through family-based immigration, and it covers cases where an individual has a close relative who’s either a U.S. citizen or green card holder (permanent resident). You must have an eligible relative who petitioned on your behalf before you can apply for permanent residence based on your relationship with them; most applicants must wait at least 3 years after being admitted into U.S.

H-1B Visa For Professionals With Specialized Skills
The H-1B visa is a work visa that is provided to workers who come from outside of the United States to fill specialized jobs. Most commonly, these visas are obtained by computer programmers and engineers. To get an H-1B visa, you must find a company that will sponsor you through a petition process.
Once approved, you can begin working with your new employer immediately. As long as you have valid status and remain employed at your current job for more than six months, there is no limit on how long you can stay on an H-1B visa; however, if you leave your job or let your status expire before its expiration date, it’s not possible to renew it once it has expired.

F1 Visa For Students And Exchange Visitors
Students, exchange visitors and other visa holders can seek caregiving jobs on an F1 visa or H1B visa. However, these are temporary visas. If you’re interested in staying longer or even permanently, you’ll need to apply for a permanent resident green card.

J1 Visa For International Cultural Exchange Program Participants
With a non-immigrant J1 visa, foreign nationals are able to work legally in United States. This visa allows participants of an exchange program to be employed by a host organization and requires a cultural component to be fulfilled. In order to participate, applicants must fit into one of six categories: A teacher; trainee; professor or researcher; specialist; clerical worker (limited); or camp counselor.
All J1 Visa holders participating in these programs must have an F-1 visa status and only those between 18 and 26 years old are eligible. J1 participants under 18 must also have parental consent and written documentation proving they will not be working more than 20 hours per week while they live with their host family.
